Kristi Miller
Kristi L. Miller, a dedicated tutor from Big Bear City, California, has been named the Firefly Tutor's November Tutor of the Month for 2023. With 1.5 years of experience as a tutor, Kristi's passion for teaching shines through as she tutors a wide range of subjects, including Reading, Writing, English, Math, Science, Spanish, Poetry, Life Coaching, and Guitar, for students ranging from K-12 to college/university levels.
Currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy, Kristi also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Preclinical Psychology, along with certifications as an Applied Behavior Analysis Technician (ABAT-certified) and a CF-L1 Personal Trainer. Her commitment to inclusive support and empowering students to excel academically is evident in her teaching philosophy: "It is my hope that they will carry this academic work ethic into other areas of their personal and professional development."One of her proudest moments as a tutor was witnessing a second-grade student's remarkable progress in reading, with a 106-point increase in state testing scores after just six months of tutoring.
Kristi's favorite tips for students include being honest, doing their best, asking questions, communicating difficulties, believing in themselves, and never giving up. Outside of tutoring, Kristi is a published author of the children's novel "Ivan the Terrible Dragon" and volunteers as a Basketball Coach for local youth. Her love for animals is evident through her menagerie of 6 chickens, 3 cats, 3 toads, 2 crested geckos, 1 snake, and 1 dog.
