Meet Our Founder
Diane Cutler Lewis is an educator, entrepreneur, and philanthropist committed to helping students reach their highest potential. She began tutoring a friend's daughter and within one year, had 21 students from referrals. The best part was that she loved her students as they poured laughter and joy into her heart. Tutoring quickly became Diane's passion and life purpose.
She founded A+ In Home Tutors in 2003 to promote educational awareness and customized learning for students of all backgrounds and grade levels. The organization has grown to be one of the leading tutoring vendors to many Charter Schools and community partners throughout California. In 2021, Diane launched Firefly Tutors, presented by A+ In Home Tutors, to continue to expand tutoring services with the goal of more positively impacting greater numbers of students in all 50 United States.
Diane earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University Northridge, majoring in Liberal Studies and Education with a California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential in K-8th grade learning.
Diane's career in education was inspired by her father, Morris Cutler. In 2019, she published Education Warrior, an inspirational memoir of her father that highlights his global impact on education in Afghanistan, Kenya, and California. Also, as a tribute to her father, she founded Education Warrior, a not-for-profit created to provide much-needed tutoring for vulnerable at-risk children of families with high hopes but little money who are the most likely to drop out of school.
In addition to her passion for making education accessible to all, Diane embraces travel, people from diverse cultures, delicious foods, art, music, theatre and enjoys an active, healthy lifestyle in Anaheim, California.

Tutor Of The Month
We are proud to highlight Josh Walton as our Tutor of the Month for June! Josh has made a meaningful impact by helping students grow in confidence and communication, especially in reading and writing.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in English from California State University, Sacramento, and has been tutoring for approximately three years. While he supports students across all subjects—including math—his true passion lies in guiding kids as they build their reading and writing skills. His calm, encouraging presence creates a space where students feel empowered to explore, ask questions, and express themselves through language.
What he loves most about tutoring is watching students develop their unique talents. For Josh, tutoring is more than just academic help—it’s about building a student’s ability to learn, understand, and communicate with confidence and independence.
One of his proudest moments was helping a student with special needs graduate from high school and head to college. That experience continues to inspire his work. He often reminds students that writing is about communication, not perfection: “The idea being expressed doesn't matter as much as being thorough and consistent in its expression. It can be molded to your own style—there’s no one precise way to do it.”
Outside of tutoring, Josh enjoys playing guitar left-handed, a creative twist that reflects his individuality. He was also published in the very first issue of Calaveras Station, CSU Sacramento’s literary journal, and his favorite classic novel is Jane Eyre.
Josh’s thoughtful approach and dedication to student growth make him a valued part of the Firefly Tutors team. We’re excited to celebrate his contributions this month!
Thank you for your passion, Josh. Your support is helping students discover their voice—and their future.
