Meet Our Founder
Diane Cutler Lewis is an educator, entrepreneur, and philanthropist committed to helping students reach their highest potential. She began tutoring a friend's daughter and within one year, had 21 students from referrals. The best part was that she loved her students as they poured laughter and joy into her heart. Tutoring quickly became Diane's passion and life purpose.
She founded A+ In Home Tutors in 2003 to promote educational awareness and customized learning for students of all backgrounds and grade levels. The organization has grown to be one of the leading tutoring vendors to many Charter Schools and community partners throughout California. In 2021, Diane launched Firefly Tutors, presented by A+ In Home Tutors, to continue to expand tutoring services with the goal of more positively impacting greater numbers of students in all 50 United States.
Diane earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University Northridge, majoring in Liberal Studies and Education with a California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential in K-8th grade learning.
Diane's career in education was inspired by her father, Morris Cutler. In 2019, she published Education Warrior, an inspirational memoir of her father that highlights his global impact on education in Afghanistan, Kenya, and California. Also, as a tribute to her father, she founded Education Warrior, a not-for-profit created to provide much-needed tutoring for vulnerable at-risk children of families with high hopes but little money who are the most likely to drop out of school.
In addition to her passion for making education accessible to all, Diane embraces travel, people from diverse cultures, delicious foods, art, music, theatre and enjoys an active, healthy lifestyle in Anaheim, California.

Tutor Of The Month
We're excited to recognize Monica Galilea Vides as our Tutor of the Month for September 2025! Based in Los Angeles, California, Monica brings a vibrant energy and a deeply personalized approach to every session, helping students not only succeed academically but also enjoy the learning journey.
Monica earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology (Zoology) from California Polytechnic State University, Pomona, and has been tutoring with Firefly Tutors since April 2025. She works with students from TK through 12th grade across all subjects, with particular strengths in Science, Math, and English. Her sessions are highly tailored to each student's learning style, interests, and goals, making the experience both effective and engaging.
What Monica loves most about tutoring is witnessing the incredible progress her students make over time. For her, it's not just about improving grades; it's about helping kids feel accomplished and confident in themselves. One of her proudest moments was helping a student meet their teacher's expectations. This breakthrough brought both pride and joy to the entire family.
Monica's biggest tip for other educators is to truly get to know your students and adjust the learning experience to match their needs. She also emphasizes the value of reviewing past lessons, something many parents have told her makes a noticeable difference in their child's retention and understanding.
Outside of tutoring, Monica has a fascinating background in animal care and education. During college, she worked on a farm and once helped raise a baby possum. She even ran a small business teaching about and breeding unique critters, such as isopods, tarantulas, jumping spiders, and mantises, bringing science to life in a whole new way!
Monica's dedication, creativity, and heart-centered teaching make her an irreplaceable part of the Firefly Tutors team. We're thrilled to celebrate her this month and applaud the impact she's making on students and families alike.
Thank you for your passion and innovation, Monica. Your students are thriving because of your commitment to personalized, joyful learning!
